How Accurate Is Pangram Image?

Separate vendor benchmarks, older independent observations and the evidence in your own image.

Quick answer

Pangram publishes benchmark results, but those figures do not give a certainty level for your individual image. The PCMag and NYT-related observations below predate the Image 1.0 release on 2026-11-04. PangramImage.com does not run Pangram models and does not claim a measured accuracy rate. [1–3]

What Pangram’s published numbers measure [1]

99.96%: Pangram’s own image benchmark

Pangram reports 99.96% on its own 1,200-image benchmark of frontier-model images. A vendor-selected test is not an independent measurement of every kind of image.

98.7%: a video benchmark

Pangram reports 98.7% on the DF26 video benchmark. A video result should not be treated as still-image accuracy or as a result for this site.

What the earlier independent reports establish

  • PCMag: text, not Image 1.0 [2]

PCMag’s 2026-09-29 text test reported missed AI-written text. The linked Yahoo syndication identifies the author and date. It is not an image benchmark or a test of the November release.

  • NYT observation via Wikipedia [3]

Wikipedia summarizes Brian X. Chen’s 2026-08-13 NYT test as finding image detection less reliable than text detection. This is a secondary account of an older test, not a direct review of Image 1.0.

How to cross-check an uncertain image

  1. Find the original

Ask for the original file and locate its earliest available source. A screenshot can discard provenance.

  2. Read local evidence

Check content credentials and AI metadata. Distinguish a signed declaration from editable metadata or a missing record.

  3. Compare independent signals

Use pixel analysis and, when useful, another independent detector. Different methods may disagree or make mistakes.

  4. Keep the conclusion proportionate

Check the creator’s explanation and other records. If evidence conflicts, report uncertainty rather than declaring the image authentic or accusing someone.

Questions and answers

Is 99.96% my image’s probability of being correctly classified?

No. It is Pangram’s reported benchmark figure, not a calibrated certainty for your image.

Do older reviews validate Image 1.0?

No. The cited September text test and August observation came before the 2026-11-04 release; they provide historical context only.

Can a detector score alone prove misconduct?

No. Use it as one signal and seek corroborating evidence. Both false positives and missed AI content are possible.
